Aloha Fellow Maui Schooner owners,

I am excited as we are entering a new, timelier era of communications with our owners by utilizing "e-blasts."

In this "blast," our first, we have many items to report.

Newly Designed Website
First off…if you have not had a chance, please visit our newly designed website: www.mauischooner.com. Under Owners Corner you will find 2 years of the association's financials, board minutes and any other items that may be of interest to you. We commit to update the site within two weeks of any meeting to help keep everyone informed.

Schooner Sign
On your next visit to the Schooner you will notice a new sign out front, this aluminum post sign will give us many years of service as our old sign was "listing" toward the street.

Pool Area
Once you enter the pool area you will find redesigned jacuzzi steps and new railings for both the pool and jacuzzi. These simple enhancements will ensure our safety entering or exiting the pool and jacuzzi.

You will also see new tiki lights soon. In an effort to save energy we have gone solar with our tiki lights and expect to save approximately $3,600 on our gas bill. If these lights work as planned, they will have a one month pay back considering our current propane costs.

Good News on Tax Appeals
We have some good news on our tax appeals! Maui County has agreed to a settlement with a 10% reduction in our property tax bill for 2007-2008 and 2008-2009. The board felt that the settlement was the best way to resolve this ongoing appeal. If we proceeded to the Board of Appeals we would have to prove that we were over appraised by 20%, and given the property values on Maui, we most likely would not have been successful. I want to thank Gordie Johansen, our Treasurer, for the many hours of research and negotiation he did on this subject. Approximately $45,000 (the refund we will receive for the 2007-2008 property taxes) will be put into our reserves and we will decide what to do with the 2008-2009 credit of approximately $43,000 in September at our budget meeting.

Mailing Owners Lists
There may be additional mail in your post office box sometime soon…I want to let everyone know that two of our owners have requested a copy of an owners list. Our AOAO bylaws state that an owner is entitled to an owners list if they are willing to sign an affidavit agreeing to its usage and restrictions and pay for the reproduction costs. We are governed by two Associations, one is the Master or Condo Association and one is the Timeshare Association. The section of the Bylaws quoted to request this list was from the Condo Association. The owners list includes owner's names and addresses only.

A second option is also available. We will provide a list of mail service companies which will mail the owners' communication directly to you, once again at the requesting owners' expense.

We respect your privacy, email addresses and phone numbers will not be given out to anyone. After consulting legal counsel, the board made a policy last year to never share those two items with anyone.

Lastly...
In mid October look for our September board minutes on our website and expect another "eblast" updating you on our "draft" refurbishment plans, and who was selected to be on the owners committee reviewing and refining those plans.

I hope you found this communication valuable and welcome your feedback at board@mauischooner.com.

Aloha,

Greg Gfeller
President
