Trading Places International® opened its doors in 1973 as a full-service travel agency in Southern California. The company became involved with vacation ownership resorts in 1975 when it coordinated travel for developer "fly/buy" programs in Hawaii. Trading Places International's vacation exchange business was born with the company's creation of a successful exchange program for a resort in Mexico. The first Trading Places satellite office opened in Hawaii in 1985. In 1994, with the addition of two seasoned timeshare veterans, services were broadened to include resort management. 1997 saw the addition of a final timeshare business development expert, completing the circle of service and evidence of Trading Places International's commitment to its future in servicing in vacation ownership.
Trading Places notes that 80% of vacation owners want to exchange to 20% of vacation destinations. The company focuses its exchange services on these high-demand regions. TPI offers traditional fees for domestic and international resorts as well as a unique option of exchanging back to the vacationer's home resort, and for Trading Places Prime members, at a reduced exchange fee.
